Title: Peace in HeavenReflection Questions:
1. In today’s gospel reading we read how the crowd following Jesus welcomes Him to Jerusalem as a king. Likewise, during Advent we too prepare to welcome Jesus as king. What traditions do you or your family have to help you to prepare for Jesus’ birth? Do you remember any traditions you had with your family when growing up? How do these help traditions help you prepare yourself mentally for Christmas? 2. In Luke 19:38 we read that the crowd welcomed Jesus saying, “Blessed is the King how comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.” In our world, Christmas seems like anything but a peaceful time. Many of us have a packed calendar and are busy making preparations for Christmas and the new year. In the midst of this busy time of the year, consider for a moment how Jesus brings us peace. How has Jesus given you peace? In what ways does keeping your focus on Him help you to find peace even in the midst of our chaotic and often troubling world? 3. By riding a colt into Jerusalem Jesus fulfills Zechariah 9:9, which reads, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” How does Zechariah’s prophecy help us to understand what type of king Jesus is and the mission He has come to accomplish? |
